Is Monuriki Open During Survivor Filming?
Survivor filming exclusion zones round Monuriki: the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji's notices for 2021, 2023, 2025 and 2026, what they close, and what to check before booking.
While a Survivor filming exclusion zone is in force, no: the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji’s notice MN 08/2026 required all ships to keep at least 1 nautical mile from the shores of Monu Riki (its spelling of Monuriki), Monu, Mana and three other Mamanuca islands from 15 April to 3 July 2026, for the US Survivor series. Similar notices covered April to June or July in 2021, 2023 and 2025. When this page was checked on 3 November 2026, no Monuriki notice was on the authority’s list. Outside the notice dates, the day cruise listed as Fiji: Monuriki, Mana Sand Bar & Snorkelling Cruise lands on Monuriki for 2.5 to 3 hours, from US$135 a person (checked November 2026).
The calendar above is the Monuriki day cruise, with 686 reviews (checked November 2026).
The short answer
Notices have come in past years, each time for a stretch between mid-April and early July. If your trip falls between April and July, check the authority’s marine notices before you book, and ask the operator how a notice changes the day.
The notices, year by year
| Year | Notice | Dates | Islands named | Distance to keep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | MN 08/2026 | 15 April to 3 July | Monu Riki, Monu, Tavua (east side), Yadua, Yanuya (west side), Mana | 1 nautical mile |
| 2025 | MN 05/2025 | 15 April to 3 July | Monu Riki, Monu (east side), Tavua, Yadua, Mana | 1 nautical mile |
| 2023 | MN 06/2023 | 15 April to 30 June | Monu Riki, Monu, Yanuya, Tavua, Nautanivono, Mana and Nuku | 1.5 nautical miles |
| 2021 | 20/21 | 17 April to 10 June | Monu Riki (southwest side), Tavua, Monu (east side), Nautanivono (Yadua), Mana | 1.5 nautical miles |
From the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji’s marine notices, read on 3 November 2026.
Each notice is issued under Regulation 20 of the Maritime (Navigation Safety) Regulations 2014 and tells ship owners, masters, seafarers and the public to keep clear of the named islands for the filming period; the 2021, 2023, 2025 and 2026 notices approve a 24-hour exclusion zone to SEG Holdco, LLC, Fiji Branch. The 2026 notice does not apply to Fiji Navy, maritime police, pilot and tug vessels, or to ships answering an emergency.

Survivor and the Mamanucas
US Survivor has made Fiji its island home for more than a decade, with many seasons shot in the Mamanuca Islands, particularly at Mana Island Resort and its surroundings (Tourism Fiji). Cruisin’ Fiji’s day cruise page names Monuriki as a place where US Survivor has been filmed, as well as Cast Away. The notices are about keeping boats away while filming is under way; on a normal day, what you visit is the island itself, its beach and its walk.
What to check before you book
- Look at the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji’s marine notices for a temporary event exclusion zone naming Monu Riki, especially if you travel between April and July.
- If one covers your dates, ask the operator before you book how the day runs while it is in force.
- Outside a notice, plan the day as usual: the boat leaves Port Denarau at 9:00 am and spends 2.5 to 3 hours on Monuriki.
When the cruise goes ahead as usual
With no exclusion zone on the authority’s list, nothing in these notices stands between you and the island: the cruise stops at Mana Sand Bar and Monu Cove, then lands on Monuriki for lunch, a guided walk and time on the beach.

The same cruise is on Viator as Cruisin' Fiji's Monuriki day cruise, from US$138 (checked November 2026). For the island itself, see the Cast Away island.
