Is the Monuriki Island Tour Worth It?
Is the Monuriki day cruise worth it? What US$135 buys against the other Mamanuca days, the long day, the group, who it suits, who should skip it, and what to know first.
For most people who want Monuriki, yes: the day cruise is the one carded here that lands on the island, and its price covers what other Mamanuca days charge extra for, lunch, drinks, snorkelling gear and a Denarau Island pickup. It is from US$135 a person (checked November 2026), with 686 reviews on GetYourGuide. It is not worth it if you want a resort day with a pool and a bar, a short half day, or a day that works for a wheelchair: the listing marks it not suitable for wheelchair users, and Monuriki has no resort.
The calendar above is the cruise listed as Fiji: Monuriki, Mana Sand Bar & Snorkelling Cruise (checked November 2026).
The short answer
It earns its price when the island is the reason you are going. You get three stops in one day, two of them in the water, and the longest one, 2.5 to 3 hours, on Monuriki itself, with lunch ashore and a guided walk to the places where Cast Away was filmed. What you give up is comfort: there is no pool, no bar and no resort on the island, the day runs from 9:00 am to about 4:30 or 5 pm, and much of it is in the sun. If that sounds like the point rather than the price, book it.
What the price buys, against the other Mamanuca days
| Day trip | From | Lunch and drinks | Lands on Monuriki |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Monuriki day cruise (GetYourGuide) | US$135 | Lovo lunch, snacks, fruit; water, juice, soft drinks; beer and wine with lunch | Yes |
| Captain Cook Cruises' island and reef day sail (GetYourGuide) | US$112 in current promotion (usually US$132) | Morning and afternoon tea, BBQ lunch and drinks | No |
| Malamala Beach Club day pass (GetYourGuide) | US$99 | Not included | No |
| South Sea Sailing Experience with lunch and drinks (GetYourGuide) | US$132 | Morning tea, buffet lunch; soft drinks all day, beer and wine for 2 hours | No |
Prices per person from the listings (checked November 2026). Two of these add a mandatory fuel surcharge on top: $10 per adult and per child aged 5 to 15 on the Malamala day pass, and $5 per adult and $5 per child on the sailing day. The currency is not stated.
The Monuriki cruise is not the cheapest day out of Port Denarau, but the cheaper ones leave food and drink out, or go to a beach club or a resort instead of an island with nothing on it. With lunch and drinks included, its price sits with the all-inclusive days; what it adds is the one thing the others cannot sell, the Cast Away island. Monuriki or another Mamanuca day trip has the full comparison.
The day, and how long it feels

The boat leaves Port Denarau at 9:00 am. On Cruisin’ Fiji’s timetable you reach Mana Sand Bar at about 10:00 am for a snorkel and a swim of 45 minutes to an hour, run 30 minutes to Monu Cove for a second stop of the same length, then 15 minutes to Monuriki, where you spend 2.5 to 3 hours. The boat leaves the island at about 3:30 to 4 pm and is back at about 4:30 to 5 pm. With a resort pickup at the start and the drop-off at the end, plan on the whole day. It is a shared cruise with other passengers, not a private one, and no group size is printed.

Who should skip it
Skip it if you use a wheelchair: the GetYourGuide listing marks it not suitable for wheelchair users. On Viator the same cruise is not recommended for travellers with poor cardiovascular health, and medical facilities in the area are limited. Skip it, too, if you get badly seasick and the forecast is rough, or if you want an easy, short day: the Malamala day pass goes to an island 30 minutes from Port Denarau, and the half-day trips from the marina are shorter.
Children can go with an adult; on Viator, children under 16 must be with an adult, and the minimum drinking age for the beer and wine is 18. A vegetarian lunch is available on request on the Viator listing, so ask when you book.
Before you book
Book from Denarau Island if you can, because the pickup is free there; from other hotels a transport fee applies, and neither listing gives the amount. Bring your own towel and sunscreen, which are not included. Sea and weather conditions can change the day on the water. And between April and July, check the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji’s notices for a Survivor filming exclusion zone: one was in force round Monuriki from 15 April to 3 July 2026.
